Bulk Import - Applications & Unit Issuance

Use Bulk Unit Issuance in Caruso to issue units to multiple investors

Written by Fahim Kaidawala

The Bulk Unit Issuance feature lets you issue units to multiple investors at once by uploading a CSV file. This is especially useful when processing a high volume of unit issuances that would be inefficient to process one by one.

Step 1: Prepare Your CSV

  • In the navigation pane, select Imports.

  • Click New Import at the top right.

  • Enter the import details:

    • Import name: Enter the name you would like to assign to the bulk import.

    • Type: Unit Issuance: (Selected by default)

  • Download the Bulk Unit Issuance CSV template.

  • Fill in the required details for each unit issuance. For more detail on the CSV format, please see below.

CSV Import Format

The CSV must follow the prescribed format:

Column

Description

Format

Capital Raise - ID

The capital raise the application belongs to

ID

Unit Class - ID

The unit class for the issuance — must be a class of the capital raise

ID

Investing Entity - ID

The investing entity receiving the units

ID

Unit Issuance - Date of Issuance

The date units are issued

DD/MM/YYYY

Unit Class - Pricing Date

The date used to look up the class issuance price — this sets the price per unit for the row

DD/MM/YYYY

Unit Issuance - Application Amount

The application amount for the underlying investment application — used when the capital raise's investment method is Dollar amount

Decimal — provide this or No. of Units, per the capital raise's investment method

Unit Issuance - No. of Units

The number of units to issue — used when the capital raise's investment method is Number of units

Decimal, to the fund's unit precision — provide this or Application Amount, per the capital raise's investment method

Unit Issuance - Transaction Classification

Optional transaction classification

An existing classification value, e.g. Related Party NCBO or Between Related Funds

Unit Issuance - Email

Send the unit issuance email to the investor

Y or N

Unit Issuance - Statement

Publish the unit issuance notice to the investor portal

Y or N

Each row is validated before anything is imported, and a clear error is shown against the row when:

  • The capital raise ID is not valid

  • The unit class ID is not valid, or is not a class of the capital raise

  • The investing entity ID is not valid

  • The quantity does not match the capital raise's investment method — capital raises using the Dollar amount method accept an application amount, capital raises using the Number of units method accept a number of units

  • The transaction classification is not a valid value

The issuance price is looked up from the class issuance price effective on the row's pricing date — make sure an issuance price is set for that date before importing.

Step 2: Upload Your CSV

  • Upload your completed CSV

  • If errors are found, the system will display them, allowing you to update your file and re-upload.

Step 3: Review and Confirm

  • Preview the uploaded data on the confirmation page.

  • From here, you can:

    • Download the CSV you uploaded

    • Edit the import if needed

    • Use the search function to quickly find investors, funds, or offers

  • Once reviewed, click Confirm to process the issuance.

Important Note: By importing these transactions, Caruso will automatically create the underlying allocation requests and payment records based on the unit issuance details provided. Imported issuances do not go through an issuance batch. On the orders table they are shown as Imported rather than linking to a batch.

Before confirming, you can download an audit report of the draft import. It details each row in full: the fund and capital raise, the investing entity (including tax ID, country, and tax residency), the unit class, the holding's number of units and value before and after issuance, and the issuance itself — date, number of units, price per unit, amount, classification, and the email and statement preferences.

Step 4: Notifications and Statements

  • If enabled: If enabled, investors will receive a Unit Issuance email, and a Unit Issuance statement will be published to the Investor Portal.

  • If disabled: Statements are stored in the manager console, hidden from the investor portal, and no email is sent.
