The reinvestment price is the price per unit Caruso uses when it issues units for a distribution reinvestment. It is set on the class, is effective-dated, and is separate from the class unit value used for valuations.
Note: The Reinvestment Price tab is only available when the feature is enabled for your organisation. If you do not see it, contact Caruso Support.
Why the reinvestment price is separate from unit value
Caruso holds four prices against a class, each used for a different purpose:
Unit Value – the class valuation (NAV) used for holding values, fund NAV and statements
Issuance Price – the price used when units are issued for an application
Redemption Price – the price used when units are redeemed
Reinvestment Price – the price used when distribution reinvestments are issued
Keeping reinvestment pricing separate means you can reinvest at a price agreed for the distribution without changing how the fund is valued.
Note: Reinvestments were previously priced off the latest class unit value. Once the reinvestment price is enabled for your organisation, distributions use the reinvestment price instead.
Prerequisites
The class must already exist. See Create and Manage Unit Classes.
You need permission to create and delete unit prices. Without it you can view the price history but not change it.
How to add a reinvestment price
In the navigation pane, select Funds
Open the relevant fund and go to the Classes tab
Select the unit class you want to price
Go to the Reinvestment Price tab
Click Update reinvestment price
Enter the following details:
Effective date – the date from which this price applies. Dates that already have a reinvestment price are unavailable
Price – the price per unit, to a maximum of 6 decimal places
Note (optional) – context for the price, up to 500 characters
Click Confirm to save
The new price appears at the top of the price history. The most recent price shows an effective period of Ongoing; earlier prices show the period they applied for.
Note: Adding a price with a past effective date changes how distributions dated on or after that date will be priced. A warning appears on the form when you choose a retroactive date.
Note: Effective dates are set at midnight in the fund's timezone, so a price applies from the start of the day you choose in that fund's local time.
How to review the price history
The Reinvestment Price tab lists every price for the class with its effective period, the note, and who created it.
The Created column shows the date and time the price was entered, for example 03 Jul 2026, 11:37 AM
Tip: Where two prices share the same created date, the time tells you which was entered most recently. This matters when a price is added after a distribution has already been calculated — the distribution will still be using the earlier price until it is recalculated.
How to delete a reinvestment price
Prices cannot be edited. To correct a price, delete it and add a new one.
Go to the Reinvestment Price tab on the unit class
Click the ellipsis (...) next to the price
Select Delete and confirm
Note: Creating and deleting a reinvestment price are both recorded in the audit log, including who made the change and when.
How the reinvestment price is used in a distribution
When you create or edit a draft distribution, you set the date Caruso uses to look up the reinvestment price for each class
When the distribution is calculated, Caruso records the price against every reinvesting holding, so the price you review is the price used to issue units
If no reinvestment price exists for that date, the distribution cannot be confirmed until you change the date or add a price
Important: Because the price is recorded against each holding when the distribution is calculated, adding or changing a reinvestment price afterwards does not update a distribution that has already been calculated. If the distribution page shows a reinvestment price mismatch warning, the price may have been set after the calculation ran — recalculate the distribution so it picks up the correct price before confirming.
For the full distribution workflow, see Managing Reinvestments.
Tips and best practice
Publish the reinvestment price before you calculate the distribution. Adding it afterwards means the draft has to be recalculated.
Use the note field to record where the price came from, for example the valuation or board approval it follows.
One price per class per effective date. For a distribution spanning several unit classes, every class needs a price for the same price date.
