How to Set Up MFA with an Authenticator App on the Investor Portal

Investor Portal MFA login guide

Written by Fahim Kaidawala

Your Investor Portal account is protected by multi-factor authentication (MFA). You can now choose to use an authenticator app instead, which generates the code on your own device without waiting for an email.

Using an authenticator app is optional. If you prefer to keep receiving codes by email, no action is needed.

Prerequisites

  • An authenticator app installed on your phone or tablet, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy

  • Your Investor Portal password, which is required to confirm the setup

Step 1: Open Account Security Preferences

  • Log in to the Investor Portal

  • Click the user icon in the top right corner

  • Select Account Preferences from the menu

  • Go to the Account Security section

  • Locate the authenticator app option and start the setup

Step 2: Confirm Your Password

  • Enter your Investor Portal password

  • Continue to the next step

Your password is requested again to confirm it is you making the change to your security settings.

Step 3: Scan the QR Code

  • Open your authenticator app and choose the option to add a new account

  • Scan the QR code shown on screen

  • Your authenticator app will add Caruso and begin generating six-digit codes

Tip: If your device cannot scan the QR code, use the setup key shown alongside it and enter it into your authenticator app manually.

Step 4: Enter a Code to Finish Setup

  • Enter the current six-digit code from your authenticator app

  • Confirm to complete the setup

Each code is valid for around 30 seconds. If the code changes while you are typing, enter the new one.

Step 5: Save Your Backup Codes

Once setup is complete, you will be given a set of backup codes. Each code can be used once in place of a code from your authenticator app.

  • Save your backup codes somewhere safe, such as a password manager or a printed copy kept securely

  • Do not store them on the same device as your authenticator app

Important: Backup codes are shown once. If you lose them, you can generate a new set from Account Security, which requires your password. Generating a new set replaces all previous codes.

Signing In with an Authenticator App

Once the authenticator app is set up, it becomes your second step at sign in:

  • Go to the Investor Portal login page

  • Enter your email address and password

  • Open your authenticator app and enter the current six-digit code

  • You will be taken to your portfolio

You will no longer receive security codes by email while the authenticator app is active.

If You Cannot Access Your Authenticator App

If you have lost or replaced your device, or your codes are no longer being accepted:

  • On the code entry screen, choose the option to use a backup code

  • Enter one of the backup codes you saved during setup

Each backup code works only once, so cross it off your list after use.

Important: If you have used all your backup codes, or do not have them available, contact your fund manager. For your security, your identity must be confirmed before the authenticator app can be reset, so allow time for this to be completed.

Turning Off the Authenticator App

You can return to receiving codes by email at any time:

  • Click the user icon in the top right corner, then select Account Preferences

  • Go to the Account Security section

  • Turn off the authenticator app

  • Enter your Investor Portal password to confirm

Security codes will then be sent to your registered email address at each sign in. Any unused backup codes stop working, and you should remove the Caruso entry from your authenticator app.

Tips

  • Set up the authenticator app on a device you carry with you, since a code is needed at every sign in

  • Keep your device clock set to update automatically, so the codes it generates stay in step

  • Save your backup codes before you leave the setup screen, not afterwards
